Don't miss a single post of Her Adorning. Subscribe by email!

On Monday we looked at the bright color palette that will be in style this spring and summer. Today let's look at the pastels. According to the folks at Pantone, blue represents freedom. Summer is light, airy, and free. Accordingly, we'll be dressing in the light, cool blues with names like Placid Blue, along with other pastels like Violet Tulip and Hemlock (green)and the neutrals beige and gray. Unless of course we're wearing the bright colors we looked at Monday.

The Colors of Spring 2014

Don't miss a single post of Her Adorning. Subscribe by email!

I first learned of Pantone when I started making jewelry. Pantone is the organization that tells us what colors we're going to wear every year. Made up of designers, artists, and other influencers, the folks at Pantone name the color of the year and also various colors for each season. Those colors show up in clothing and jewelry as well as in home decorating.

2014's color of the year is Radiant Orchid. This spring and summer, we have two color palettes to choose from. I'll be sharing one today and the other one on Wednesday. Today we're going to look at the bright shades, and I do mean bright!

The colors for summer 2014 have names like Cayenne and Radiant Orchid. These are mixed with Celosia Orange, Dazzling Blue, and Freesia (yellow). Here are some examples of this color group in use.

Available at DownEast Basics

You can wear these brights together or tone them down with some neutrals. Pantone is recommending colors called Sand (beige) and Paloma (gray). Let's put together an outfit!

Top in Highrise Grey from DownEast Basics -- $34.99
Shoes from Naturalizer -- $59.99
Bag from Kohl's -- $39
Celtic Knot Flexi clip for hair -- $14

The bright colors aren't for everyone, I know, so Wednesday we'll look at the pastels that will be in style this summer.

Skirt Extenders: The Solution to the Too-Short Skirt

I had heard of them and had seen them online, but I had never seen one in person until my son's girlfriend wore one to church last week. Truthfully, all I saw was a cute dress until my daughter started a conversation about it.

Yes, the skirt extender is so cute and so natural looking that it easily does the job of adding length to the too-short skirt and making it modest!

The store where she got hers doesn't currently have them in their online store, but I spent some time searching, and I found these for you.

I found this first group at DownEast Basics, which is a great source for modest clothing.

I found these Skirt Extenders on Amazon

Now the only question is which one(s) to buy! And which colors??? Oh dear! Can't I just buy one of each????

We Love the Jeans Skirt

We all love the denim skirt. It's just so comfy, casual, and easy to wear. We also all wish they were easier to find. There never seems to be one around when you're shopping for a new one. Well, don't you worry. I've spent hours (and hours, and then some more hours) scouring the web, and I'm happy to bring you these!

First, I want to say that I'm a little jealous of you full-figured gals. I went to Roaman's website, clicked on skirts, and found no fewer than seven denim skirts right there for the taking! Not only that, but right now, Roaman's is having a BOGO sale!

Roaman's sells clothing from size 12 to 44, so if that's you, hurry and follow this link to see your choices of denim skirts, plus some other really pretty skirts too!

Here are just a few examples of Roaman's cute denim skirts that I can't wear:

Next, I found this floral embroidered skirt from EastEssence for $24.99. They have several other styles, as well.

Old Pueblo Trading Company has several options as well. I like this one for only $29.99. It's available in 6 colors. Click on the skirt to find out more about it.

Here's a cute one, also from Old Pueblo Trading Company. It's available in Misses, Petites, and Women's sizes for $39.99-45.99.

Here's another one from Old Pueblo. This is available in either light or dark denim.

Kohl's has several jeans skirts from which to choose. I like the white one, which is 23 1/2 inches long.

Here's one I think I'll have to buy. It's from Chadwicks and features a v-shaped yoke in front and a back zipper. It comes in dark or light denim. I like dark denim; it'll become light denim eventually anyway. Click here to see it at Chadwicks.

Also at Chadwicks, I found this sandblasted denim skirt. It's soft and drapey and oh so comfy!

I also found quite a few decent length Denim Skirts at Amazon, so be sure to check this link while you're shopping. Scroll down to see some of the longer skirts.
