The Colors of Spring 2014

I first learned of Pantone when I started making jewelry. Pantone is the organization that tells us what colors we're going to wear every year. Made up of designers, artists, and other influencers, the folks at Pantone name the color of the year and also various colors for each season. Those colors show up in clothing and jewelry as well as in home decorating.

2014's color of the year is Radiant Orchid. This spring and summer, we have two color palettes to choose from. I'll be sharing one today and the other one on Wednesday. Today we're going to look at the bright shades, and I do mean bright!

The colors for summer 2014 have names like Cayenne and Radiant Orchid. These are mixed with Celosia Orange, Dazzling Blue, and Freesia (yellow). Here are some examples of this color group in use.

You can wear these brights together or tone them down with some neutrals. Pantone is recommending colors called Sand (beige) and Paloma (gray). Let's put together an outfit!

The bright colors aren't for everyone, I know, so Wednesday we'll look at the pastels that will be in style this summer.
